Buchler Phillips, the UK’s oldest independent corporate recovery and restructuring firm, has appointed the Rt Hon Mark Field as a Consultant.
Mark is a former Member of Parliament and Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office who represented the central London constituency of the Cities of London and Westminster in the UK Parliament between June 2001 and November 2019.
A graduate of St Edmund Hall, Oxford, he practised as a solicitor with Freshfields in the early 1990s and also set up, ran and sold two start-up businesses before embarking on a political career.
Mark developed an in-depth and widely recognised expertise of the City, financial and professional services at home alongside leading the UK government’s economic diplomacy in international energy strategy, cyber security, fintech and green finance while serving on the Intelligence and Security Committee, as Chairman of the Conservatives’ international office and as an FCO Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific.
Since leaving parliament he has embarked upon a portfolio career, which already includes roles as non-executive Chairman of the Isle of Man based Capital International Bank; Chair of the Advisory Board of the London School of Commerce; Senior Advisor to the Cayman Island Government Office in London and Advisor to PASS Technology, a security software provider to public and private sector clients.
Welcoming Mark to Buchler Phillips, the firm’s co-founder and Chairman, David Buchler, said:
“Mark has been a friend of the firm for many years and I am delighted that we will now be working more closely with him. His broad experience of complex corporate situations and cross-border business challenges, as well as an enviable contact book built over decades in the City and politics, will be invaluable to Buchler Phillips as we continue to expand amid significant demand for our services in restructuring, turnaround, administrations and insolvency.”
